A previous report around November last year, claimed that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 will come with an S Pen slot. Now a new report by ETNews (in Korean) states that Samsung tried, but had to drop the idea after running into problems with securing enough internal space for the stylus.

The report claims that Samsung Electronics internally pushed for proper S Pen integration as it was requested by many. It also made better sense to have an integrated S Pen as users could simply pull it out and draw on the larger tablet-like display. While Samsung reportedly managed to successfully integrate the S Pen in the fordable, it ended up making the device very thick when folded, which conflicted with the base idea that a fordable needs to get thinner (or more pocket able) when folded.

Samsung also reportedly tried to make a thinner S Pen, but it ended up reducing the writing feel as it’s not comfortable to hold a stylus that’s too thin. The cost of integrating a traditional S Pen into the Fold was also quite high.

The company is currently trying to improve the writing feel while making the S Pen thinner, but will only release it when Samsung believes it is as effective as the regular stylus, the report states. Adding to Samsung’s problems is the new hinge design, which the company is expected to debut with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. An unnamed official told ETNews that the new structure for the foldable’s hinge has changed, which makes it very difficult to mount the S Pen. On a side note, Samsung could also go with the Microsoft Surface Duo 2’s design which lets the flatter Surface Slim Pen 2 magnetically snap on the device.

iPhone 15 series of smartphones is expected to launch later this year. The series will likely include four models – the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The devices are expected to have a display size similar to their iPhone 14 series counterparts. This time, however, the iPhone 15 Pro model is expected to bear the ‘Ultra’ moniker. Now, thanks to a new report, the base iPhone 15 model’s specifications and design have leaked online.

According to a 9to5Mac reportiPhone 15 design renders obtained from 3D CAD files suggest multiple new features for the upcoming iPhone. The renders cited in the report suggest that the iPhone 15 will no longer have a notch, but will feature a Dynamic Island that debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro models last year. The Dynamic Island comprised of an oval-shaped cutout at the top of the display that covers up the front camera and Face ID sensors.

The report adds that the iPhone 15 will be equipped with a USB-Type C charging port. According to the report, Apple is expected to stick with the traditional dual camera setup for the standard iPhone 15 lineup. The third camera and LiDAR appear to only be available on iPhone 15 Pro models.

Finally, the iPhone 15 will likely feature a display size of 6.2-inch, the report suggests, which is slightly bigger than the current base model iPhone 14. The display resolution and refresh rate are currently unknown, but are expected to be similar to those of the iPhone 14 models.

Capacitive buttons, which were rumoured to be featured in certain iPhone models this year, were missing from the CAD files, the report noted, adding that the capacitive buttons appear exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro models, as the iPhone 15 retains physical buttons.

browser apps for smartphones. The apps for iOS and Android smartphones will be updated with support for the company’s AI chat bot, which it has dubbed a “copilot for the Web”. Another Microsoft app is also gaining support for AI capabilities — Microsoft Skype. Users can add Bing to a group chat and get answers to questions that will be visible to all participants. The company also says the chat bot is capable of handling over 100 languages and can translate between them.

The Redmond company shared details of the updated Bing and Microsoft Edge apps in a blog post, stating that access to the preview program for the new AI-powered Bing has been expanded to 1 million users in 169 countries. After recent reports that the company’s AI chat bot disparaged some users, and a few remedial steps by the firm such as limiting the new Bing to five consecutive queries, Microsoft says that feedback on the updated AI capabilities was 71 percent positive.

The updated Bing app for iOS and Android smartphones bring a refreshed design with a Bing icon at the bottom of the screen. Users can interact with the AI chatbot and ask it a variety of questions. However, unlike the preview version of Bing that was limited to the desktop browser, Bing has been updated with support for voice queries on mobile and desktop.

Meanwhile, users who signed up to test Microsoft’s updated version of Bing on the desktop browser will also be able to access the AI powered chatbot via the Microsoft Edge homepage, according to the company.

Skype, which will turn 20 later this year, is also getting AI upgrades. The new ‘Bing in Skype’ feature will allow users to add the chatbot to any group chat and receive real-time answers to questions. The company says Bing in Skype can suggest venues for family events, travel destinations, and weather forecasts. All members in a group with the chatbot will be able to see its responses to queries, Microsoft adds.

These updated features will be available to the 1 million users that Microsoft has granted access to the new AI-powered Bing, and the company says it is working to expand access to more people. Users can also sign up for the company’s Bing and Edge mobile apps on iOS and Android smartphones to join the waitlist.

Around 76 percent of respondents have claimed that they have noticed a rise in pesky calls or SMS based on their conversations with WhatsApp business accounts and their activity on Facebook or Instagram, online survey firm Local Circles said on Wednesday.

According to the survey conducted between February 1 and 20, 95 percent of WhatsApp users surveyed by Local Circles in India indicate that they get one or more pesky messages each day out of which 41 percent claim to get four or more such messages daily.

When contacted, a Meta spokesperson said that Whatsapp has built systems that make it faster for WhatsApp to suspend a business from sending messages when people provide feedback they have had a low-quality experience.

“If a business receives excessive negative feedback we may limit or remove a business’ access to WhatsApp,” Meta spokesperson said.

Local Circles said that to understand if users were having such an experience based on the privacy policy changes and to quantify the magnitude of such instances, it asked respondents if they are seeing an increase in unsolicited commercial messages on WhatsApp based on their conversation with WhatsApp business users or your activity on Facebook or Instagram.

“Nearly three fourth or 76 percent of the 12,215 WhatsApp users who responded to this question stated that they are seeing an increase in pesky or unsolicited commercial messages based on their conversations with WhatsApp business accounts and their activity on Facebook/Instagram, the platforms owned by Meta in addition to WhatsApp,” the survey report said. The survey claims to have received over 51,000 responses from citizens located in 351 districts of India.

Local Circles said that the survey finding indicates that the majority of WhatsApp users surveyed are using tools available to them like blocking or archiving and yet the spam messages are continuing indicating that the senders are also switching numbers or that there are so many of them that the menace continues.

“Majority or 73 percent out of 12,673 respondents to this question indicated that they exercise the option to block the numbers from where the unsolicited commercial messages come,” the report said.

The Meta spokesperson said that the user’s choice is key and provides them the option to block a business account.

“We would like to share that at WhatsApp, users’ choice is at the core of what we do. Messaging is the new way to get business done that is better than SMS, e-mail, and the phone, which have become overloaded and spammy. Our rule is that whether people want to talk to a business or not, the choice is that of our users,” the spokesperson said. The spokesperson shared it constantly works with businesses to ensure messages are helpful and expected.

“We allow businesses to only send a certain number of messages per day… We’ve recently added the ability for businesses to create a simple way for customers to opt out of receiving certain types of messages right within the chat,” the spokesperson said.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Design Details Tipped, Likely to Launch Later This Year

Samsung is likely to launch the Galaxy Watch 6 later in 2023.

Samsung is expected to launch its Galaxy Watch 6 series sometime later this year. Not much is known about the smart wearable yet, but the model is expected to succeed the Galaxy Watch 5 that was launched in August 2022. If the South Korean tech giant follows precedence, the Galaxy Watch 6 series could launch with a base and a pro variation. A new leak is now suggesting that the Galaxy Watch 6 series may no longer use a flat display.

Reliable tipster Ice universe (Universe Ice) suggested that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 will come with a curved glass design, instead of a flat one. “Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 has returned to the curved glass design. From now on, it is known that the glass is not flat and there is not much other information,” the tweet read.

Samsung has not revealed much about the purported smart wearable yet. Although, the company is believed to have filed for a patent that would enable the company to integrate a projector in some of its future Galaxy watches, it may not make its way to the Galaxy Watch 6. A smartwatch with “a projection display on a side portion of the housing and configured to display information on a display area adjacent to the housing” is described in the patent. It could be used to replicate the main screen or to display additional information, the report adds.

The company also recently confirmed that the Cycle Tracking feature on the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will provide users with more detailed information about their menstrual cycle. It will evaluate the user’s body temperature and other key fertility metrics to assess the user’s unique fertility status. The watch’s temperature sensor will use infrared technology to offer more accurate readings. Notably, all information would be encrypted before being saved on the user’s device.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 Series launched in August 2022 with a Bio Active sensor that measures heart rate, SpO2, stress levels, and offers ECG as well as blood pressure monitoring. The Galaxy Watch 5 runs Wear OS 3.5-based One UI Watch 4.5. It has an ‘Armour Aluminium’ case and a Sport Band. The 44mm variant has an always-on display (AOD) and a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 450×450 pixel resolution. It is powered by a dual-core Exynos W920 SoC and 1.5GB of RAM. The smartwatch also has 16GB of internal storage.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro model also runs the WearOS 3.5-based One UI Watch 4.5. It has a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 450×450 pixels and an always-on display. It has a Titanium case as well as a D-buckle sport band. The smartwatch has the same specifications as the Galaxy Watch 5, including the chip-set, RAM, and storage configuration.
